Abstract

Based on a comprehensive analysis of current literature, this review systematizes data on the evolution of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) from prokaryotic forms to specialized eukaryotic isoforms. It demonstrates that, as biological systems became more complex, NOS underwent significant structural and functional modifications, transforming from a nonspecific protective enzyme into a multifunctional regulator involved in neuro-signaling, vascular regulation, and immune modulation.
