In the modern agro-industrial complex, the availability of affordable and effective nutrient substrates for microorganism cultivation is a pressing issue. At the same time, in Belarus, as worldwide, the problem of waste disposal and methods for their bioconversion is growing. One solution to this problem could be the controlled cultivation of microalgae, including Chlorella, with the addition of waste to the nutrient medium to produce biomass rich in protein and vitamins for subsequent use as an additive in the production of fish compound feed.
Materials and Methods. The study subjects were Chlorella vulgaris and slags waste as a component of the nutrient medium. For the experiment, slags waste from microbial synthesis was added to Tamiya medium at concentrations of 1.0%, 0.5%, and 0.1%.
Results and Discussion. The feasibility of using slags waste as a component of a nutrient medium for cultivating the microalga C. vulgaris to produce a suspension for subsequent addition to fish feed was experimentally confirmed. It was found that the addition of slags waste at all studied concentrations (0.1%, 0.5%, and 1.0%) resulted in an increase in cell numbers and biomass accumulation compared to the control group. A slags waste concentration of 1.0% was found to be optimal for achieving the maximum yield of absolutely dry biomass.
Conclusion. It is possible to produce a chlorella suspension for subsequent addition to fish feed as a highly effective protein component using slags waste as a source of nutrients and an organic component in the culture media. Moreover, a concentration of 0.1% slags ensures more stable and prolonged growth, while a concentration of 1.0% slags ensures more effective and prolonged biomass accumulation.
