Abstract

Objective. To study the relationship and interdependence between new urbanization and regional economic development in the Yangtze River Delta region, and analyze its development trends and influencing factors.

Materials and methods. Based on panel data for the period 2013-2023 in the Yangtze River Delta region (Shanghai, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui), a system of assessment indices for new urbanization and regional economy was constructed. The entropy value method is used to determine the weight of the indices, and correlation and regression analysis is used to assess the relationship.

Results. The study shows that the relationship between new urbanization and regional economy in the  Yangtze River Delta region has improved significantly, from an unbalanced state in 2013 to a coordinated state in 2023. Shanghai and Jiangsu Province have the highest degree of coordination (reaching 0.969 and 0.988 in 2023, respectively), Zhejiang Province shows significant growth, and Anhui Province is still in a moderate unbalanced state but growing rapidly. The acceleration after 2020 is closely related to the implementation of the Yangtze River Delta Regional Integration Development Plan.

Conclusion. The new urbanization in the Yangtze River Delta region and the regional economy have formed high-quality synergies, and the national strategy and local government have been effective. In the future, it is necessary to further optimize resource allocation, strengthen regional cooperation and promote high-quality common development.
