Social and political thought of China in the first half of the 20th century on the modernization of Chinese culture

The article examines approaches to the modernization of Chinese traditional culture in the socio-political thought of China in the first half of the 20th century. The relevance of studying the history of China's cultural modernization in the first half of the 20th century is determined by the role played by Chinese traditional culture in China’s modernization. The issues of choosing a revolutionary or evolutionary path for China’s development, Westernization or modernization, and the dialogue of Chinese and Western cultures were key in the discussions between radicals, liberals, and conservatives during the period of the Republic of China. Discussions about cultural modernization reflected the desire of Chinese intellectuals to preserve China’s cultural identity in the 20th century.
