Abstract

Introduced in England and systematized by the English officer Wingfield, tennis is one of the most common, most elegant and graceful sports. This article presents the history of the development of women's tennis in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Europe and America. It is noted what physical qualities a tennis player should have, what form should be. The first rules of tennis, the layout of the court, the technique of the game are presented, methodological instructions for playing lawn tennis are given.
